Trails
Charlevoix has lots of great trail systems available to the public. The following trails are accessible with either paved trails or crushed limestone.
Little Traverse Wheelway
This 26-mile trail is a visitor favorite because it winds along the shores of Lake Michigan. There are multiple points of entry, making it easy to access whichever part of the trail interests you.
Boyne City to Charlevoix Trail
One of the newest trails in Northern Michigan, the Boyne City | Charlevoix Trail is another paved trail. This hilly trailway meanders through the Charlevoix and Boyne City countryside. This pathway is not yet complete, but there are several miles of trail leaving both Charlevoix and Boyne City.
Lake to Lake Trail
Connecting Lake Michigan to Lake Charlevoix, this beautiful trail uses crushed limestone in lieu of pavement. Please be aware, that this trail system crosses M-66 and US-31. We recommend parking at the trailhead located off of M-66. You will be able to enjoy several miles of trail through the forest without having to cross any roads.
Beaches
Charlevoix County has added wheelchair accessibility to its parks and surroundings. These new portable and removable rollout beach mats allow wheelchair users, strollers, and pedestrians easier access to Charlevoix's many waterways. You can even rent a specialized beach wheelchair available through Charlevoix's Recreation Department (call ahead to reserve). The following locations have rollout mats available to the public.
Michigan Beach Park | Lake Michigan | 95 Grant St
Beautiful sand and picnic areas, perfect for the lighthouse and Lake Michigan sunset views. Concessions, restrooms, ADA-accessible playground.
Mushroom House Tour
When visiting Charlevoix, make a point of viewing Earl Young's iconic mushroom houses. These quirky gnome homes are a fan favorite and they each look different! The Mushroom House Tour explores the fascinating history of each of the houses and the gem car is a great way to zip around town.
